BIO:

Michael “duVee” Dietrich (he/him) is a Chicago-based artist with a love for film and music.

Michael’s film work is rooted in a love for capturing moments in time. He’s used the camera as an outlet to discover and question his identity as an artist and as a gay man. Early films such as 7.28.20 (2020) and Momentum (2020) reflect a focus on the self in search of a creative direction. His upcoming film, I Want to Buy a T-Shirt (2025), is a diaristic portrait on the personal, sexual, and critical self over the years. Documentaries, silent films, adult films, and independent LGBTQ+ cinema most inform his output.

duVee is a play on Michael’s middle name, DuVal. It’s a paternal family name turned moniker that invites a new creative freedom to explore other passions, namely music and DJing. duVee is most inspired by music with genre cross-pollination. Genres he’s invested in and plays includes pop, electronics, drum & bass, nu metal, hip-hop, and dance music of all shades.

During the week, Michael works as a campaign strategist. He graduated the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a Bachelor of Science in Advertising and a minor in Cinema Studies.
